  • great place, but...
    By applebyjustin, 02/16/07
Durango used to be a secluded vacation destination, where you could go for peace. its still a nice place, but its become popular very quickly, and the area is still rising. For beutiful mountains and wildlife, yes, Durango is the place. But to many people going on vacation there has made it rough to get around.

  • Adventure in Durango
    By Tblizzard, 05/21/06
Durango offers a great adventure for the whole family. We stayed downtown at a boutique hotel(at Leland and Roschester). We liked being able to wander around downtown, and avoid getting in our car. On Sunday we took the Durango Silverton Railroad trip the whole day, which I would highly recommend.

Sunday evening we enjoyed a nice dinner at an ...

  • Great place to visit
    By Rajesh K, 11/28/05
Durango is a small town that connects you to some of the best places in the world namely Telluride,Ouray,Silverton. We drove for about 5 hours from Santa Fe, NM. The drive was great. Hwy 84 would be the best scenic route compared to Hwy 550 (I did both and I liked Hwy 84). Start around 1:00 pm from Santa Fe, so that you can enjoy the scenic ...

  • Bad Experience
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/29/05
The city was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful at night. It was very hard to find a hotel and when we did the overall experience was bad. We did not feel welcome and left the very next day.

  • Ride the train
    By Jay Dee, 08/27/05
We had a good stay, and went to sight see and ride the train. We found many shops open in the evening, near the train station. More than I cared to see, but the wife... Train is expensive but worth the scenery. If you ride take heed that the open cars can be a dirty ride, and it is cool in the morning. Open gondola cars are cheaper, but the steam ...

  • We'll skip it next time...
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 08/15/05
We visited Durango on our vacation last week and were generally disappointed. We found little to do in the evening and were particularly disappointed by the Iron Horse Inn, which we found to be the worst lodging we've had in years. (Our room smelled musty, a dead bug was in the bathtub, the furnishings were outdated, and the entire place ...

  • Beautiful area
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/12/05
We loved the fact that the area's history has been preserved. The downtown area is beautiful and there is a lot to do there. Nearby Silverton is a quaint little town that must be seen via the railway. The Stratter Hotel is a must see. I can't wait to go again.

  • Would like to return!
    By Sholly Marie, 07/01/05
Durango was a pleasant surprise for us. We had never traveled that way before and our daughter-in-law told us to stop there. We spent a day there, walking through shops, and eating at the quaint hotel/saloon. People there were very friendly, and it was a beautiful little town, making the stop before Colorado Springs very enjoyable.

  • Delighted with Durango.
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/09/05
Durango has a wonderful small town atmosphere with some of the finer points of interest you'll find in this part of Colorado. Terrific people and great accomodations await the traveler. Winter or summer, this town will treat you to a great getaway and you'll want to come back. I know, I've returned at least four times.
