I have lived near Santa Barbara almost all my life and have regretted every second of it. The weather is boring, the people are obnoxious and rude, the oceans are polluted and uncomfortable, and the streets are crowded with homeless people, gangsters, and rats. I can't wait until I can finally escape this rat hole and move myself to a nice little town on the east coast.
I was disappointed. When I first arrived, I thought the mountains looked great - even though there is still fire damage right now. I can forgive that. The town was cute. We ate at a some good restaraunts - Opal was our favorite. Very good. We stayed at the Cheshire Cat B&B - it was great! I was not impressed with the local wine - but I can ...

Beautifully sited on gently sloping hills above the Pacific, the town's ubiquitous red-tiled roofs and white stucco walls of its low-rise buildings form a backdrop to some fine Spanish Revival architecture. The golden beaches are wide and clean, lined by palm trees along a curving bay. Although a large portion of downtown has been replaced by a ...
SB doesn't have to be as expensive as you might think. Rent a home through VRBO.com. Eat GREAT food on Milpas St. Stop at Trader Joe's and do a picnic on the beach. Head up the beach from State street & watch the sunset from the cliffs. Catch a trolley. Stroll the wharf just to listen to the waves. Head up the mountain for a ...

BAD experience at SB beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/30/08
I thought SB is a beautiful and safe place to enjoy the beach through the weekend, but it was wrong since last weekend!! Me and my friends were enjoying biking alone the coast line last weekend, when we passing through a skateboard park, some damn person attacked us unfriendly by using water balls. That was hurt and rude. We were trying to ...

Who creates these top ten lists???
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/08
It makes me laugh when I see Santa Barbara beaches listed in a top beaches list. I've lived in California my whole life and in Santa Barbara the past few years and the beaches here are by no means tops!!! Once you get past all the homeless people, you have to deal with all the tar in the sand, and the bacteria in the water! If the list is only ...

Dining review: Ruth's Chris
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/08
It has been my experience in California that dining service is average to poor, and ordering a steak cooked well-done is a bad idea. Here is what happens with little variation: we order “extra-well-done, no red”, the steak arrives and the server departs without inquiring as to its adequacy. The steak is cut open and red juices seep out ...

A great get-away town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/07
Just returned from a beautiful and too short weekend getaway in SB with my girlfriend. Yes, SB is a beautiful place, even though most people get the geography wrong - the ocean is to the south, the mountains to the north, and it is more west than north of LA. No matter. It is a city with just a few urban ills, some homelessness and pandhandling, ...
I love SB!! To bad it is to expense to live there. It is so peaceful and beautiful. I love the nightlife too. You can go bar to bar and them at the end of the night walk home or take a cab. Love the weather.
