I too moved here to go to college, bypassing such places as New York City, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC to come to San Jose. And I must say, I agree with the other writer to not listen to the naysayers and form your own opinion. I know for a fact that people come from all over to visit San Jose. In fact, I was ...

This is a working city not so much a travel destination.
By Kenny K, 02/14/08
Nice place to live and work. But I don't think i would fly here from hundreds of miles away just to visit San Jose. I think if you give this city 5-10 years it will have much more to offer. Currently the city and private investors are investing a significant amount of money in the downtown area to make it a better place to live and visit.

Perfect place to live...not so much to visit
By erindaniellem, 07/01/07
I have lived in San Jose my whole life and mostly it's been great! Any store or type of restaraunt you can imagine is just a few minute's drive away. It's close to beaches and a big city. My favorite part about SJ is that there are so many different nationalities and cultures represented here, but there is still a sense of community. ...

Even people living here don't want to visit San Jose
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/07
After my boyfriend & I moved to Silicon Valley for jobs 2 years ago we've had several friends and family members visit us (since we moved from the midwest). Needless to say, all visiting groups were very disappointed with San Jose. Visitor comments ranged from "omigod what do you do for fun here?" to "I'm actually glad ...

An overgrown suburb intended for living, not visiting.
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 06/16/07
San Jose can hardly be considered a true tourist destination. If anything, the city is better fit as a "one day trip" diversion from San Francisco. San Jose does have it's fair share of strip malls, free ways, and office parks. Nevertheless, I doubt the average tourist will fly there merely to visit the outlet mall at Milipitas or HP ...

Skip San Jose

I've been living in the Almaden Valley area of San Jose for over two years. It's an okay place to raise kids (decent schools in Almaden, parks, library, etc.), but there is nothing remarkable about this area that makes it a tourist-worthy destination. There really are strip malls and food chains everywhere, making it not unlike every other ...

Downtown is a great place to live and visit
By critiquerr, 03/18/07
I moved here this year for college and am very impressed so far. The downtown is a great place to live if you like the liveliness of a big city with the charm of a smaller town. There are countless restaurants of diverse nationalities, very few of which are chains. The layout of the city makes it easy to walk around, and there is a great mass ...

A happy resident

I truly love it here. Every day I realize how lucky I am to experience Silicon Valley. The 10-lane expressways, the strip malls, the office parks. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
