Monterey is laid back, has great weather and a quaint, historic fishing harbor. The best part is that it's only about 20 miles from Big Sur, and has many inexpensive places to stay. If you have a nice long weekend to kill, and enjoy hiking, paddling in the bay, and, well, eating, this could be a great trip.
Monterey C.A. can best be described as a pink Zinfandel or by comparing it to other cities such as Daytona or Myrtle Beach. The Fisherman's Wharf and The Monterey Aquarium seem to be the main attractions so if your traveling through wine country, I would suggest refining your accommodations and highly recommend staying in Carmel, C.A. which is ...

What a fun weekend in Monterey!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/07
We liked the atmosphere, the locals were very friendly and nice and the food and entertainment were just tops! We started our Saturday with a stroll on Cannery Row; what fun! We loved the ocean view and the shops were interesting and different. Then, we wandered up to Lighthouse Street and ate a late lunch at a place called Hulla's. The food ...

Anniversary and then some

Splurge on a nice seaside meal at the Duck Club Grill, rent a convertible, stroll Carmel- it doesn't get any better. Steer clear of Cannery Row and 17-mile drive, but Do Not Miss the Aquarium! If my wife hadn"t pulled me away I'd still be staring at the jellyfish.Point Lobos State Reserve is also a must see, especially if your time is limited.
Ah, Monterey, CA...far enough to get away from it all. We love this town, weather is great, by the sea, lots of sea food and don't miss going to the cannery row. The views alone are priceless.
Absolutley positivley one of the nicest places on the planet. the people are friendly and i dont think i have ever seen a place as drenched in natural beauty as monterey. make sure to visit Carmel-By-The-Sea and to take a drive down the coast for amazing and spectacular views.
Liked the wharphs, the downtown and Cannery row restaurants and night spots, the Aquarium, Lou Lou's and the Sand Bar on wharf 2, views of the waves hitting the rocks at beaches in Pacific Grove and Asilimar, 30 minutes south to Big Sur, a little more douth to Hearst Castle, a couple of hours north to SF.
Busy place in summer but beautiful all the same. Bring the kids.

The Most Beautiful City by the bay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/13/06
Monterey is by far the place to be. With beautiful, serene beaches all aong this historic city (used to be state capital) there are many things a family, or person can do. Snorkeling, diving, surfing, skim boarding, bogie boarding, kayaking and so many more (wetsuit required) activities are available, and are both exciting and fun adventures! The ...
Lived in the Bay Area my whole life and this May was the first time I have ever been here!!! I want to move to Monterey so bad!!! The homes are so cute! I enjoyed the night life on Alvarado St. and the next day went hiking at Point Lobos State Park (just a few short miles south of Carmel) The scenery was BEAUTIFUL!!!! The only thing I was bummed ...
