If you use Anchorage as an 'anchor' and visit areas around it, you won't be disappointed. Our cruise landed in Whittier, and we took the Portage Glacier Bay tour, which also took us to the Animal Wildlife Conservation Center. Both places are great to visit. We got up VERY close to the glacier and able to see it very well. AWCC was ...

An Equal Balance of Wilderness and Civilization
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/04/08
Anchorage is, yes, the biggest city in Alaska, but really holds quite a bit of Alaska's value. You can see a lot of wildlife, such as moose, wild geese, eagles, and if you're lucky, sometimes you can see a baluga whale splashing in the water. You also have a great view of the mountains. My favorite is "Mount. Susitna" more ...
If you like the wilderness, you will love Alaska and every part of it. We had the opportunity to spend 10 days RVing Alaska. From Anchorage to Fairbanks to Seward. The best way to see Alaska is by RV.
The least expensive way is by RVing. Stop when you want to, sleep when you want to and just plan your own itinerary. Must see is Denali National Park. Wished I could spend more time there.

Anchorage - Robert Olson Images
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/07
My wife and I took a cruise from Vancouver, BC to Anchorage, AK and spent some time exploring downtown after the cruise ended. On our last day, we debated over a beautiful picture taken by Robert Olson and in the end, we could not leave Anchorage without it! Mr. Olson was an extremely nice person, helped us with our purchase (and put up with our ...

I'll be back next year!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/06
Anchorage, what a beautiful city as well as it's people. Spent two weeks in Alaska this past summer enjoying sights that I've never seen (Mt Mckinley, with glacier landing, bears, moose) and will never forget. For dining, I recommend the Glacier Brewhouse (excellent salmon)and the Sourdough Mining Co. (corn fritters are a must). Alaska is a must see!!!!

Cooler than cool
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/06
Anchorage is very Alaska, very cool, and very distinctive. I have read that it's not "Alaska enough", as in Alaskans think it's just like any Outside city. But it's not really. It's not like Fairbanks but it's not like any other place either.
Anchorage is convenient by air. It is not convenient by car from ...

Anchorage Rocks!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/06
Anchorage, the biggest city in Alaska has everything you need...small enough to be able to get around and live in it has all the comforts of a city! I have lived here all of my life and there is no other place in the world like it! You are close to prestine wilderness and any out door activity you can name but you are in a city large enough for ...

I (heart) Anchorage
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/06
Fantastic! Great views of the mountains, enough attractions to keep you busy for two months rather than two weeks. And enough daylight to use up the whole day! I loved finding all of the local art, the antiques, the museums. And food.. oh the food! Wide streets made getting around fairly easy but the one way streets can drive you nuts. The ...
Be sure to go to Seward and take a cruise to the Glaciers. Along the way you will get to see Otters, Whales, Dolphins, Sea Lions, and Eagles. The seven hours out to sea was fantastic I would recommend it to anyone going to Alaska.
If I could live anywhere it would be Anchorage! I love how it is far away from the "lower 48" and everyone is in no hurry. Being from Houston (the forth largest city in the nation), Anchorage was a great and welcome change.
The city is laid out nice and you can walk around downtown without any problems. Especially in the summer ...
