Every spring, my adult daughter and I visit a new European destination. This year over Easter weekend we visited Amsterdam and had an amazing time. We stayed in a central location on a canal and could easily walk to museums, resteraunts and shopping. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed late afternoons sitting by the canals drinking wine and ...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/15/09
My parents wedding anniversary came up and I decided and nice canal tour with dinner on board would be great for them. It was a very costly for a dinner for one (59Euro per person) with a 2-hour cruise along the canals in Amsterdam. But, i was thinking that it was not very often that you get to cruise in a canal and have nice dinner and see ...
Amsterdam is an ok place to visit for no longer than 48 hours. Especially if you are female. They cater to men here and American women are not what is desired...sorry ladies:-( However, I did enjoy the R-Museum and the Van Gogh Museum...it was magnificent. I enjoyed the tours and overall the city was lively. BUT I did not appreciate skanky women ...

I visited Amsterdam for 1 week; I would say that's more than enough time to tour the city. I can not stress enough how important it is to do research, even with my research I think I was not prepared.

Great city with wellknown beautiful canals. Relaxed atmosphere and people. Lots of culture (4 famous museums in walking distance from each other) and of course the coffeshops and red light district. Most visitors only see the innercity (with it's canals) but just outside the innercircle there are neighbourhoods with lots of bars and ...

Amsterdam is not my favorite European city, but it certainly has its good points. The neighborhoods of the “Centrum” are quite charming, with row after row of 5-6 story Dutch apartment houses lining canals and very walkable streets. There is little evidence of urban blight in the Centrum.
Amazing city - Just came back from a 3 day stay. Not as expensive as Paris. Seemed to be about the right length of stay. Public transport was sufficient, nice trams. English taught in schools so language barrier was non existant with hotel, restaurants, merchants, etc. Rijksmuseum ok & Van Gogh Museums top notch, Heineken Brewery tour - fun ...

After some Extremely negative experiences with dark-skinned immigrant public transportation drivers we let any such transportation pass by and only entered buses driven by locals. Locals were polite and customer-friendly, and knew English. The city is way too overcrowded though.
