My best vacation ever in Greece has been some time ago.. in 1976. I had a wonderful vacation there hiking all over the main land of Greece, putting up our tents on farmer's back yards, even on plots belonging to churches.

Vacationing on the island of Crete is one of my fondest vacations. I spent a week with my ex (and kids) at a family resort called Nana Beach. We played in the warm crystal-clear waters off the island from sun up to sun down. I live in Hawaii now- I've yet to find a beach to rival any beach in Crete. If you EVER have the opportunity to see Crete (or any city in Greece), go! I promise you- you won't be disappointed.

Tips:
- it is huge, so do not want to see everything at once, you need at least 2 weeks for the western part and another 2 weeks to the eastern part of the island

- much better to rent a big moped than a car but be careful with the locals - they cannot drive still very fast and crazy!

- very nice people at remote places - go there, do not stay in towns which are crowded and full of noisy and crazy and drunken tourists

If you are looking for a dream holiday this is the place to go.
The people are so friendly and very hospitable. The weather right up until the end of October is always hot and balmy.The season starts at Easter.

Crete is an amazing island. It is not like any other part of Greece. The people are warm and interesting and crazy. We partied all night long then went and got gyros at Kokinos at 7 in the morning. The men are hot just really reserved. The beach is beautiful.

Friendy people, great food, interesting culture. Don't rent a car, parking terrible. Take taxi or tours. Tours are great and given in all languages. Loved the shopping: leather great buy & pottery wonderful. Fantastic music, even our birds get into the music and dance to it here at home.
We like going there at the beginning of tourist season, not too hot or crowded

the biggest mistake one could make while travelling to Crete, is to book an "All Inclusive" hotel.
the country and its people are so friendly, you need to go out and meet them and live with them.
the food and the drinks are so afordable that you don't even need to make a budget about it.
night life is so vivid that you can;t have enough of it!
