Been to Koh Samui twice now first time in Oct 2008 then back at new year Dec08. what a fantastic place it can cater for everyone if your looking for thai women there is plenty of them , if your looking for good food there is plenty , nightlife brilliant . Its a phenomenal place if you want a cheap holiday you can have it if you want an expensive ...
I went to Koh Samui adn stayed in a hotel on Chaweng. The hotel was nice enough and the island is a tropical paradise. However, Koh samui is nothing more than an empty shell with no soul. Over the past few years the island has found tourism to be a way to generate income, and as a result the island has been sucked dry of any Thai culture, aside ...
Went on Detox week at Newbodyand Mind after being convinced with the adverts on the website. Very bad surprise to see very baisc bungalows next to dirty noisy polluted ferry terminal. Paid 52000 baht for 1 weekPromised professional service for medical treatment but Frighteningly - no - even blood tests and other invasive procedures. No qualified ...

Had fun, but I won't go back...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/21/08
Let me start with a positive by saying our Hotel, the Bandara Resort in Bo Phut beach (North) was outstanding. Bit pricier, but I highly recommend it for people looking for a bit more of a laid back atmosphere away from Chewang. Which brings me to my next point...Chewang is a hole!
For a country (or Island) that allegedly prides itself on ...

TRAGIC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/12/07
We stayed in the north of Koh Samui which was more family orientated. Tragic is the best word to describe what has happened since I visited the island 20years ago. Rampant, poorly planned and constructed buildings almost completely circumventing the coastline. The water in the north is muddy on the bottom (probably due to erosion derived sediments). If you are looking for a pristine tropical paradise - forget it!

Songkran
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/06
Koh Samui is the third largest island, approximately 700 km south of Bangkok, in the Surat Thani province. Beautiful sandy beaches can be found on Koh Samui's coastline, along with coconut palm trees.
Every year, Thai New Year (Songkran) is celebrated on April 13 to April 15. The streets are packed with people, who participate in the ...
Perhaps being detached from the mainland, unlike Phuket, gives Samui a more rural feel. Definitely for a more younger crowd given the nightlife, clubbing, etc. I like the convenience of being able to circumvent the entire island for siteseeing on a Honda Dream in under a couple hours using hwy. 4169. And, of course, Koh Phangan is close by for the Full Moon Party, but I wouldn't recommend it--dirty, crowded, unsafe.
The above says it all really. The food is fantastic and cheap, the beaches are lovely and all the locals we met were very friendly and eager to help. We stayed at Choeng Mon at the north end of the island - a completely different place to the hectic tourist trap that is Chaweng, where I assume the people who wrote bad reviews must have stayed.
