I have been there 3 times now and love it. I didn't just stay for weeks, more like months. It's great.
There is so much to do, I would go for at least a month and learn the language. (The language helps if you are planning to also visit neighbouring countries, including Laos, Yunnan province China, Myanma and the tourist areas of Kampuchia.

My first step away from home. . .
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/25/05
The first time I stepped outside my homeland I was so excited and a bit scared. I was with my mother going to Thailand to visit my sister who is working at Interkids Bilingual School at Ramkhamhaeng, Bangkok. The first thing that caught my attention when we travel from the airport to their housing site was the enlarged pictures of the royal family. ...

When I first took my family to Thailand 9 years ago we were hooked. Now we visit every year and it just gets better. Once you get over the heat and the smells of Bangkok it really is a magnificent and interesting city. Although we usually spend only 6 days in Bangkok before going north, I can not recall any bad experiences. I highly recommend ...
I like Bangkok in the early 1990s, im a bit disappointed with the city now, its a mess. Street vendors are everywhere, the skytrain blocks the view of the landscpae and and the traffic is so horrendous. I prefer Manila, you'll be surprised in Manila. WIth all the bad perception of Manila, you'll be surprised once you go there.
However, the islands are still nice and clean.

Krung Thep
By Acaciatree, 10/18/05
You'll hate it for the first three days, and then love it for the rest of your life. Bangkok takes time to understand, like most cities, but once you get into the nooks of this vast and dynamic city, you will never forget the urban magic that happens here. From street vendors and temples to river taxis, raging night clubs, and dinners atop skyscrapers, this place rocks like no place else in the world.

Different every time I visit
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 10/18/05
I frequently visit Bangkok and see a different view every time I go. It gives the best value for the dollar of any large city I visit and the friendliness is rexlaxing and refreshing (though not as sincere as it once was in Krung Thep or still is in smaller Thai towns). It is fun for a couple of day's visit.
