Talk to people who have been there. Indians will say great things about Mumbai but most foreigners who have been there will beg to differ. Best avoid this city.

As I were approaching Mumbai we could see amazingly beautiful city from the air. The airport makes Hong Kong, Singapore and Seoul airports to shame. People are very well dressed and polite. We stepped out of the airport and voila we saw Mercedes taxis are waiting for arriving passengers.

BIG city...beautiful and scary all at one time..
was fortunate to be shown all of the big tourist attractions
while there..but you cant really get past the poverty its everywhere.

Mumbai is not a city, and India is not a country that rolls out the red carpet for tourists. To find the beauty of Mumbai, one must search. If you want to be treated like royalty, don't come to Mumbai. But if you're one who can become a Mumbaikar and not limit yourself to observing them, you will like the city.
