Shanghai is totally overrated. It is devoid of Chinese culture (thanks to the Cultural Revoulution), the traffic and polution are terrible, the people are rude (get used to garbage everywhere and constant spitting) and the shopping is also a disappointment. You can either buy overpriced brand name clothes or poor-quality knock-offs. Don't ...

Try Thailand or Malaysia first.

I travelled to China with high expectations. I'd studied chinese. I have interest in their history and culture. I love to read about different chinese dialects and minority people. to some extent I am still a sinophile. but that is only for the culture of china. after my trip to china, i am no longer crazy about the china as a country, ...

Don't go unless you have extra time

After reading lots of positive reviews about Mediterraneo, I decided to give it a try. The atmostphere is wonderful and the staff are very attentive and friendly. The price on the menu is quite reasonable but the food is truly disappointing. The steak (main course)tastes like a piece of cardboard while all other foods offer in the buffet is nothing ...

Shanghai travel
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 01/01/05
Travel by bus, its cheaper than the taxi. Or by subway. Watchout for professional taxis, they can be too expensive. Shanghai is big, a person can get lost... more than once... i did. Perhaps good police, but not so good traffic conditions. I heard a screech crash when i was in a small resturant one day.

Nothing special
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 07/23/07
I first visit Shanghai in 2006 looking for some different business and living opportunities. I am American, and have extensively traveled throughout Asia and Europe, and am comfortable with cultural difference or living standards, and enjoy big city life. That said, my first trip to Shanghai lasted only 3 weeks, but I really enjoyed it. There was ...

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/28/08
Shanghai is a business city, there is not much to do if you go there as a tourist. Two temples, one garden a few parks and museums and a lot of high rise buildings. All the major tourist attractions are plague with very pushy street vendors. It’s hard just to take a picture without someone coming up to you asking for money. It’s sad ...

Dazzling Skyscrappers
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/21/05
Shanghai has trasnformed its whole outlook compared to my first trip there 13 years ago. The skyscrapper are simply fascinating and there are good food everywhere. If I have gone there during spring or autumn it might be more convenient as it was raining almost everyday and the weather was freezing. However, if the people there can stop spitting, it will improve the city's image.

this a place with dragon kind of look - a weird monster with all parts borrowed from everyone else yet people there still feel good about it. if you just want to have (cheap) fun, go for it. there is nothing special about this city - maybe this is special.
