I travel often throughout the US and have not yet found Chinese food as good. I keep searching for one that can compare but to no avail. Even though I am lucky enough to live in Houston and can eat good Chinese anytime, I still look forward to traveling downtown to eat at China Garden whenever the family comes to town. The service here is very good, the people nice and attentive and there are table cloths. The food, however, is the typical compromise found in most Chinese restaurants in America. Heavy on the meat, rice and sauces. I was hoping to have Chinese food here but it was just like any ordinary take-out place if that good. So, Chinese + Texan = Chinaken....not a compliment in my book. Sorry.

As other reviews say, the egg rolls are very good (of course almost anything deep-fried is good in my book ;-). The entree I had (Mongolian beef) was good, and the portion size reasonable. Maybe a little spendy, but not for downtown, I think. I came on a quiet Sunday, and service was fine and fast. I can imagine on nights where there's some event at the Toyota Center that it would be very different...

China Garden lucked out when the Toyota Center sprang up across the street Throngs of people come in on game night and that's when service and food quality can suffer. Hit them up any other night and you'll find the food tasty, fresh and hot, and the service stellar. Portions are generous, egg rolls are crisp and plump. Do what we do and call your order in and take it home!

This place blew my expectations. Seriously, the best chinese food I have had in a while if your staying downtown this a great place to go. Life changing egg roals . . no lie! Would have never expected this place to be as good as it is, but I really cant say enough about it. Im going back to Houston next week and this restaurant is one reason why!

This restaurant is the best chinese food I have ever eaten in Houston. My husband and I visit the restaurant quite frequently. We drive all the way from Humble just to eat chinese food. We pass up how many chinese restaurants??????? Well I suggest the green pepper steak it is my favorite. The EGG ROLLS are just unexplainable you just have to try them for yourself. Once you eat them you will never want egg rolls anywhere else.

I have been going there for years it is a good value for the money.
