The food here can't be beat. In any other place in the world, the same food would cast 2-3x as much. I like it because the owner really does provide the community with a place to be proud of. This place belongs in a big city, and I I think we are lucky to have access to a place like this. They use as much locally grown/raised food as ...

I have eaten at Bacaro numerous times and each time the food was incredible, the wait staff excellent and the mood relaxing. The portion size is perfect and sometimes the chef sends out surprise extras! I ate there with my sister last night and we received 2 free starters and an extra dessert. The desserts are always wonderful, not the usual ...

My husband took me there for my birthday and our experience was awful. We waited for twenty minutes before a server approached our table and our appetizer salad was loaded with salt. My husband made a special request with his dinner and the waitress forgot to bring him his side dish. I could not eat my entree because it had bacon in it (this was ...

having gone to UI as a grad student years ago, I had to try this place. Admittedly I didn't eat, so my review is based on the well, non-wine drinking experience. Ambiance was nice...my friend and I sat in the wine lounge which was dark, cool (temp wise), classy and candle-lit. The dude who waited on us was friendly without being obsequious, ...

Bacaro is consistently excellent. The food is exceptionally creative: who would have thought that stuffed squash blossoms could be so tasty? And, outstanding: the steaks are always perfect and the perch is fabulous. The wine selection is extensive and unparalleled. The staff and service are also excellent- they are prompt courteous and professional. Hands down, this is the best restaurant in the area.

After reading the most recent bad reviews, I was hesitant about going here with my husband and another couple on their first date. But we were pleasantly surprised! True, there are plastic chairs and the restaurant is very small. But I found the size to be one of its best attributes, lending itself to a quite and intimate atmosphere. The food ...

  • An embarrassing choice for dinner
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/14/07
It was up to me to make reservations for a nice dinner for an out of town guest. Quite frankly, I was embarrassed - I had read raving reviews and was very disappointed. When it says "Wine Bar" - they mean just that. They do not have a full bar available. Not a cozy place at all (high ceilings, plastic chairs) and way too pretentious. ...

  • Truffle me pink
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/04
For fine-dining, bacaro is simply the place to go in Champaign Urbana. At the moment they have white truffles from Alba, Italy to entice you. I've tried many dishes and have never been disappointed. Duck never tasted so succulent with apricot and pomegranate. The simple grilled (organic) steak comes with a potato gratin the likes of which I ...

  • Exceptional Cuisine on the Prairie
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/04
As a 6 year resident I can say, without hesitation, that Bacaro offers the most exceptional dining experience available in the Champaign Urbana area. What's more, the modern lines and refined ambience coupled with a gracious wait staff that offers a near encyclopedic knowledge of the host of wines Bacaro boasts, allows this restaurant to hold ...
