While the ambiance of the place was unique and quaint, the food and service aspect was quite inadequate. The quality of the food wasn't great (dry chicken and tough calamari) and the service was even worse (what should have been a 45-minute lunch last over an hour and a half). A gem in ElginOn our way to the symphony we passed this little restaurant and thought to give it a try. Out of the ordinary, delicious food was our reward. Cafe Magdalena is now one of our favorites and we love to bring friends.OVERALL

Quaint & Cozy Cafe Hidden On Elgin's East Side~Cafe Magdalena is a quaint little restaurant on Elgin's East side. The ambience is very nice with the exposed brick wall & twinkle lights. It's
a great place to go if you love authentic Northern Italian food. It's perfect for a small group of friends, or a romantic evening for two. I attended a birthday & engagement party there, and the service was excellent.OVERALL -
Foul Mouthed ManagementThe food was good, but the owner or possibly manger was behaving inappropriately. For example, he was loudly discussing his dislikes for someone using foul language. I guess he'd had one to many martinis as they never seemed to stop coming. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and I felt as if they had no concern for customer service.
