As someone who lived in Mexico several years, I was disappointed by El Azteco. The food was not authentic and was served cold, and the tortillas had a sour taste to them. The salsa was more like tomato sauce, like the Kroger bottled salsa. Expensive, especially given the low quality and tiny portions.

El Azteco on W. Saginaw in Lansing has better food than the East Lansing site but the service is lacking and the building is definitly different from the East Lansing Site

this is not good mexican food...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/07
So I am from Texas and was hoping to find some decent mexican food in Michigan...and did not find it at El Azteco. I love the outdoor seating on the roof though, so if you are just looking to have some drinks then this is a good place to go.
El Azteco is not for the faint-at-heart! It's a loud, gritty, rustic place for great margaritas, spicy salsa and big beany burritos. Sometimes the service is good and sometimes it's slow. But we keep coming because the food is good and cheap (newbies, try to blue corn enchiladas or the topoppo salad) and we like the chaos. And, if they forget the salsa, ask for it for heaven's sake! It's really great.
The food was awful: the tacos were awful they were cold and shells were doughy and they didn't offer me no condiments such as taco sauce but the service was friendly:-)

Not Vegatarian Friendly - Sub Par Food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/06
Most mediocre Mexican food we've had. We went because we say it was "voted Best Mexican Food" in EL. Give me a break. Nice decor, but rock music was loud. Our server, "Emily" was impatient... but, we all have bad days. I attempted to order a Chimichanga with beans instead of meat - she rudely said no, it couldn't be ...
Taco plate is divine, rice delish, enchiladas, tostadas, all really yummy. Small warning if you order the margarita get it without the salt, or it will amke the whole meal too salty. Sitting outside in the summer is really great. Try it sometime.
