Lipuma's is a Rochester institution!! They have the best coney around (the Chicago style rocks!!) The staff is friendly (especially the 'hotdog man'), the location is unbeatable right there along the Paint Creek and it's always packed! The food is OK, but the staff is terrible. The kid in the phillies hat is abnoxious and I don't understand how they let him act the way that he does, it can not be good for business. It is great to visit, highly recommended. Always fresh food, clean place, friendly and loaded with eccentrics and eccentricities. The NY dog (with sauerkraut) is great, wouldn't mind if it were fried 'kraut. One drawback is that I wish they took VISA there; I'd be going there more often, hint hint. I moved to Rochester back in 1974. My first experience with Lipuma's was shortly thereafter. Tony, the son, went to high school with my brother and sister. Great - But Second BestLipuma's has great coneys. Far better than any of the national chains, and even better than Senate and Lafayette (which are both excellent). The very best, however, is Dulys in southwest Detroit, on Vernor and Junction. The area is a little rough, but it is worth the trip.
