It's got to be difficult if not impossible to carve out a piece of Spain in the heart of German Village. Vintage wines, aged cheeses and patio seating. Flower pots hanging on a brick wall. Fountain with lillies and goldfish. Such sights are music to the eyes at Barcelona restaurant.

We took our son there for his anniversary celebration. They're from L.A. All four of us had one of the best restaurant meals we have ever had in our lives. It can be a bit noisy inside, but the food is absolutely first-rate, and I have never had occasion to complain about the service.

We've been to this restaurant twice. The menu is eclectic and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Called ahead and explained that I was on our anniversary. Our experience was so so. It was obvious who received top service. I went for one thing paella. Being spanish and from N.Y. I was hoping for a great dish. It was enough for one person, and tasted like the pan it was served on. Have not been back.

Barcelona has the most quaint, yet luscious, patio in Columbus. My recommendation is to get a bottle of Spanish wine and a selection of 2-4 tapas (small plates).
