If I could give NO stars, I would. The worst food I've ever had. The mac and cheese was stale and cold, the fish was undercooked and it had no taste. Not only was the food bad, but the service was awful! We're from GA and heard great things about Mert's, so we decided to stop by on the way back home from visiting in Hickory. We ...SHOW FULL REVIEW

I dined at Mert's 2/14/09 and was very satisfied. I'm from Louisiana so I wanted to see if it was true down home cooking. The food was wonderful. Seasoned just right. The customer service was great and the atmosphere was busy, but in a "family reunion" sort of way. It was a wonderful experience and we plan on returning. I found Mert's quite by luck on the Internet through a search for soul food restaurants in Charlotte. I am glad to have had the eating experience, and I am already recommending it to some friends who I know will come to Charlotte and give it a try. I used to eat at Mert's 3-4 times a week back in '03-'04....I moved back home to NJ, and came back, and the food has definately fallen off....Not the same as it used to be.

I am originally from Chicago, My wife and I moved here from Dayton, Ohio. As a big city dweller most of my life, I feel like a country boy at my root. I visited Mert's with a friend who'd been there several times. It is truly outstanding home cookin' as can only be found in the South. The collards and cornbread alone are worth the trip. In the words of General Douglas McArthur, "I shall return!"OVERALL

I am always pleased when I enter the doors of Mert's. The food is always the best! The cornbread is to die for. One never does it. The fried chicken, the blackend pork chops, etc. wonderful. It is the best experience one can have in the QC.OVERALL

Wonderful food and a great staff. I got SO MUCH FOOD for lunch I was beside myself. The bbq is first rate, collard greens...out of this world. Corn bread and sweet tea....WOW! I just sat at a sidewalk table and they kept the food comming. I tiped the watress 100%. Chicken, catfish ( a whole one!), man, I'm full. Dont pass this place by. I'ts small but thats how they can pay attention to the details and customers.OVERALL
