We reserved the Blue Lagoon online for $160. I chose the king bed with bathtub option because my wife likes to bathe, not shower. There was no selection available for the AAA discount.
The dark rooms and deferred maintenance were a disappointment. To call this run-down motel a "bed and breakfast" is a ...

This place had a horrible smell in the room, we had to open the windows and leave. The bedsheets had mascara all over the pillows. We had to sleep on top of our clean bathroom towels. The bathroom was not clean, the sink was dirty. They didn't have a great breakfast, very small and not worth ever staying here. I'd recommend paying a little more money and staying at the best western. This place was absolutely horrible.

Due to windy weather, my flight was forced to turn around and fly back to San Fran. Because of this, I was unable to uphold my reservations. Both the in-house manager & the "regional manager/owner" refused to waive my cancellation fee and said I needed to call 72 hours in advance. Considering the temperamental weather in Monterey, I would NEVER recommend this hotel, especially after reading the other reviews!!!

Loved it

This place was charming. I guess quaint is a good word. The staff was friendly. It was clean, close to a really great restaurant, handy parking and no climbing a bunch of steps.. It may not have had all the bells and whistles some places have but I LOVED IT. Inexpensive too. Nancy M
We got a terrific rate ($60 per night) compared to about three times more in downtown Monterey (at a minimum - $300 for an ocean view). It was well worth the money. Our room was clean, the staff was very friendly, there was plenty of parking, no frills - but all we did was sleep there. I would recommend it if you are looking for an economy hotel ...

Not very good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
My room was clean but pretty rough. The bed was OK. There is no fan or air conditioner and there is a lot of noise with the window open. They advertise free wireless but it is not available.
If you just can't find anything else in the area then this place is OK. But that is the best I could say.
The room and service were great. Room was clean. Very close to shopping and food. We spent 3 nights there and it was quite all nights. They are working on some rooms adding fire places. Overall it was nice and we will stay there again.
The night attendent charged us an extra $10 to change rooms from 1 king bed to 2 double beds. She refused to give a receipt for the extra charge. The shower head was broken. The only ventalation in the bathroom was a small window, which when opened, made the entire room cold. However, there was a fairly new microwave oven and refrigerator.
