I just returned from my mom's suprise birthday party at Withers Hardware Restaurant. The whole experience was wonderful! We had a private room and a buffet set up for our guests. Everything was decorated so nice! We chose a menu of chicken, pork, rice, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. Everything was so delicious! The wait staff and the ...

We went to Withers before seeing plaid at barters. it was one of the most horrible experience I have ever had. The owner waited on us, took the orders, then came back 20 minutes later, said she had to take order again! After another half hour she started bringing orders out, they were all wrong, belonged to another table! When the orders ...

White wine was served warm. When I returned the wine for a cold white wine, the glasses were iced to chill and the wine served warm. The ribs were served cold with a bottled sauce poured over the ribs. After heated, I found them to be fatty with very little meat. My husband's prime rib was actually a steak with a charbroiled finish. The ...

I've worked at Barter Theatre for many years and I can personally recommend Wither's Hardware. With a few minor exceptions, our patron's are generally pleased with the service, friendly wait staff, full bar, and quality menu. If you're looking for a great atmosphere, and cozy setting, make your way down to Wither's Hardware.

The wait staff was extremely inattentive. The food was just marginal and overpriced.

There just wasn't much love in the food preparation. Somebody was just punching a clock in the kitchen. Service was bland. Food was bland. Wife had crab cakes which she described as unremarkable. I had the trout. It was a bit oily. The price tag was remarkable for being way higher than the quality of the experience. Maybe it was because it was the Sunday after the Food City 500 and they were tired? They should have closed, then.
Years ago, the Hardware restaurant was a great, lively place where locals, tourists and artists working the nearby Barter could co-mingle and enjoy a good meal and drink. Eating there tonight and asking a bunch of locals "what happened" showed how a good business can be rapidly killed by bad management. The food is now too expensive for ...

You can do better in Abingdon.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/06
I would recommend staying away from the Hardware. The service is up and down. Alison's or the Tavern are much better choices.
I took my wife here for our 36th anniversary with some anxiety as we had not been there since change in ownership. Food was great service was excellent wife was pleased, what else can you say except try the pork scallipino.
Located in historic downtown Abingdon, this restaurant has a nice menu and is a great place to go for a slightly upscale dinner. The staff was friendly & attentive.
