I spent four days at Lodgepole. It was freezing and we had thunderstorms as well. All that should be expected since it's still not quite summer. At night I had to double up on the socks, blankets on top of the sleeping bags and even slept in beanies and gloves.

The best part about this park is the Giant Trees Forest. A must see for nature lovers. Also try the Museum as well. However it is an hour drive from the the main gate to the forest. Be prepared to drive up a narrow and winding road.
Make sure to visit the privately owned Boyden Cave on Kings Canyon Scenic Byway (Hwy 180) between Grant Grove and Cedar Grove. The cave is great! Loved the park for the variety of views it offers: trees, mountains, granite hills, valleys, trails, caves, rivers .. very rich in nature. But be prepared to drive along crazy winding roads for long long distances and ofcourse always have a good pair of walking shoes and comfy jacket.

The trails are too long. My legs started to itch but we were still hiking on the trails. Very good and clean (not like home in ILLINOIS)
