I had heard so many great things about this place. My family and I went on a Friday night to experience the wine, food and the music. The wine was good, the music was great, the food was ok. The attitude of the staff/owner is what makes this place BAD. Everyone that works there seems so unhappy. Happy workers make for happy service. As much as the ...

I stumbled on this place on a trip to Ashland for the first time. I ate at the bar and was pleasantly shocked at the quality and creativity of the food. The scallops with grits (who woulda figured!) were unbelievable! My only issue was seeing all of the other dishes served (venison, stuffed flounder and ribeye) and wishing I could have some of ...

I enjoyed going to the Ironhorse under the original owner, but I am very pleased with the new owner as well. The small town character is not lost here. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, the menu choices are evolving, and the live music is great. They are making improvements to the operations every day. Kudos to the ownership and if you have not been in the last 6 months, give it another chance.

Being born and raised in "God's Country" (Ashland, VA) I have always been a big fan of the Ironhorse. They are recently under new ownership and management, and are DRASTICALLY improved. The constantly changing menu, the extensive wine and beer selections, the music, the staff , all are like a breath of fresh air. This is a great ...

Consistently Excellent!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/12/07
I was surprised to read some of the other reviews (poor) of this restaurant. My husband and I live in Richmond--Mechanicsville--and have been going to the Ironhorse several times a year for more than a decade. We have both lived in/experienced different parts of the country and have eaten at MANY restaurants. The Iron Horse has consistently ...

Unforgettable and overpriced!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/06
Being new to the town of Ashland, my husband and I were anxious to try the Iron Horse. The townies raved and cautioned we would need a reservation for this popular restaurant. So, finally, we went for dinner. It was to say the least, a huge disappointment! The server was slow to take drink orders and even slower bringing them to the table, and this ...

My first formal meal at this restaurant was on the evening of November 10th of 2002... The Beef Medallions were absolutely the best I have ever tasted.
I'M NEW HERE FROM ANOTHER STATE.I'M USE TO SEEING FINE STRUCTURED BIULDINGS.SINCE I BEEN HERE ALL I'VE SEEN WAS FAST FOOD RESTURANTS,THE IRONHORSE IS A MUCH BETTER VIEW,TO LOOK AT THAN A FAST FOOD PLACE.

So unimpressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/06
Ironhorse seems to have a bit of a reputation in Ashland, maybe just because it's the only "real" restaurant there. I, however, have not been impressed on the two occasions I've been. The decor is on the cheap-looking side and the food has a packaged taste to it. If I'm hungry in Ashland, I'd prefer to just drive the extra 15 minutes to go somewhere in Richmond.
