I frequent this restaurant due to convenience until I brought my kids and family there. Apparently, if toddlers count towards the 6 person count and thus the mandatory 18% tips. If you dare to give one penny less than the mandated 18%, you will get in trouble. NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE TO EAT!!!

Amazing Thai food! The drunken noodle with chicken is the best I have had in this area. Panang and pad thai are pretty good too. Wait staff is pretty on top of things considering how busy it can get at lunch. Never had to wait for a table though!

I've been going to this place for years. It never fails. The chef is very consistent in quality. Whenever I bring people from out of town here they are very happy.
Out of the three thai places around the plaza I like this one the best. I'm currently in love with the thai tea, yellow curry, and coconut soup there. The decor is comfortable too. And it's not too pricey. Service is usually great.
p.s The name of this restaurant isn't "Sawatdee Vegetarian Thai Restaurant" so don't complain when they don't have vegetarian dishes. Eat somewhere else..DUH

Love this place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/03/07
I may be biased cause I've been a frequent customer for a while now, but this place never gets old for me. I don't know about other peoples experiences but the hostess has always been sweet to me. Having been in a asian dominated workplace myself I can understand why some americans can interpret conversations with asian workers as being ...

Sawatdee is a neighborhood restarant for me -- and as I love Thai food and culture, I'm naturally drawn to it. Yet although I have visited over the years at least twice a month, the hostess staff is not just inattentive, they are positively hostile. This is so contrary to the experience in most Thai establishments, I don't know why ...

Vegetarians can forget about this place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/06
Vegetarians can forget about this place. It is very difficult to get through to the waiter, waitress or the manager with what you expect in vegetarian fare. The response I got was 'We have vegetable dishes but we cant guarantee that it wont contain animal/fish based products'.
I have read that this is because THAI cuisine always uses ...

Best Thai in DC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/13/06
excellent for sauces and curries, less great for noodle dishes like Pad Thai, but still pretty good.
This is the best Thai restaurant in the area hands down. The food is delicious and plentiful and very reasonably priced. The kitchen is very fast in getting the food out to the customer. The waitstaff is very courteous and attentive.
