Residencial das araras is a great place to stay during the carnaval. It's close to the beaches and partying, but provides a safe refuge of peace and quiet for recovering brain cells. It is laid back and quiet. They serve an excellent breakfast until midday. They have a swimming pool, hammocks and a bar for hanging out until it is time to party some more!
