First place I go to eat whenever I'm in New York is the Carnegie Deli. Oh sure, there are lots of competition for the best deli in the City, but this place is a tradition for me!

I've been comforted by their cold borscht pepto-bismol soup, oooh, yum! I looove their pile-high corned beef on rye. And their cheesecake, why I have one in my ...

Quantity but NOT Quality! Ordered the “Woody Allen.” Got a big mountain of very dry corned beef with cold Swiss cheese and rye bread. You could tell the place was dirty. Mustard tin on the table had dried up mustard all over it (like it was never cleaned between refills). Beer was served in cheesy plastic mugs. $60+ lunch for 2 people! On top of it all, it’s CASH ONLY! Never again. Diners beware!

    Great Food, Horrible Service.
The waiter did not even greet us and ask us what we would like to drink for about 10 minutes. Then it took another 10 to 15 minutes just for him to come back and give us refills and order our food. He acted like we were interrupting his day. He was very rude and actually confronted us twice when he heard we were not ...

Deli sandwiches are generous and good, NY cheesecake is creamy and delectable. But it is a tourist trap: quite pricy, not very clean and pretty chaotic. The main reason to go is for convenience. You're on Broadway and 55th. Although you won't be the waiter's favorite clients, it's a nice stop for coffee and cheesecake.

What is more a destination now for Food channel lovers than lovers of good food....I don't know if our pallet has changed or what but after eating here for over 35 years..I think we have to examine the place. The last time I visited and perhaps the last, I ordered the hot corned beef and matzaball soup....The soup was flavorless but
    light ...

The waiter really hurt my feeling and even my friend’s too.
I understood their unfriendly behavior, but I really don’t understand why I got a totally different service
compared with others who were in the exactly same situation with me.
I was too up set to say something about his behavior and also did not want to make my friend unhappy ...

I love their brisket! And the latkes aren't bad, either.

This was by far the worst experience I have ever had. The service was terrible, the wait staff rude, and the prices unreasonable. They only except cash, someone needs to check their tax returns, and they charge you to split a sandwich. All this place is is a name. There are plenty of other, better, place that one could go to in New York....don't waste your time.

Add hot water to Lipton powdered chicken noodle soup and you will have what Carnegie Deli serves. Their corned beef is excellent, however.

Carnegie Deli is a travesty: a tourist trap for visitors don't know any better. More of a theme-park than a legitimate deli, the corned beef is awful, the waitstaff, unfriendly. Perhaps the only good thing about Carnegie is that it corrals the clueless hordes of NJ and Midwestern theatregoers and and keeps them out of actual Manhattan neighborhoods.
