Over-rated. I had heard such great reviews since I've been living in CT. So when I finally tried it, I was very disappointed. Taste aside the pizza crust was totally burned and when I brought it the attention of the staff they really were not all that responsive. I got a shrug. Worth the wait: You cannot be from New Haven and not experienced a Pepe's this is the best pizza that I have had in my life. The brickoven give that rustic italian flavor and the essence of the Pizzeria is #!1.OVERALL

For me, the best pie in new haven, period.
Go early on sunday aft. before they open and you'll be in and out. Go on a friday night in the summer and you better bring a deck of cards and a tent.

sally's is better and modern is even better . not worth the bother to stand outside of building for an hour .
actually there is no place on this earth where i would stand outside for an hour to get food.
pepe's is a landmark but so is the washington monument . what does that have to do with the apizza ? nothing ...SHOW FULL REVIEWOVERALL

Absolutly hands down the best ever! If you haven't had it, go try it. My family and I go once a year! My Mother grew up eating here, when Mr.Pepe was still with us. The man himself was so nice!OVERALL

Pepe's is a bit over-rated (at the risk of raising the ire of every New Haven resident!). If you like really, really salty pizza with a slightly burned crust you will like this place. In my book it really doesn't deserve the reputation it holds. Quaint 'old-shcool' atmosphere though but it does get very busy. Modern pizza is better in my opinion as the pie was not as salty - crust is similar though.OVERALL

Very over rated and regulars go in the "back door" while the common crowd wait in line then once seated you are rushed out. Modern pizza is the place the only place for a great, I mean great pizza.OVERALL

We have been going there since 1961 and keep going back. It's the only place that I eat where I will stand in line. My two daughters would rather not eat pizza than go somewhere else. Co-worker from New Jersey couldn't believe it was so good. People you meet in line while waiting are from a three state area. Try it, you won't be sorry.OVERALL

The BEST Pizza EVER!!! I love it so much, that while stationed in South Dakota, I had my Mom bring me a large pizza on her flight from CT. Even reheated it ROCKS!!!! I miss Pepe's!!!OVERALL

Worth the wait- I would suggest trying it for the first time at a non-traditionally busy time. You will probably still have a wait, just not as long. People think the crust is burnt, however, this is the style that they are trying to achieve. I, myself, am a fan of New Haven style pizza, and this is the quintessential New Haven style pizza. The service may not be the greatest, but, with the quantity they turn out, they do the best they can.1 of 1 Yahoo! Users found this review helpfulOVERALL
