We have tried some of the other old hotels in Spokane such as the Davenport and Hotel Lusso and this one is definitely sub par in comparison.
Pros -
- Very nice restoration. - Bed was very comfortable.
Cons -
- Location - the corner location of two very busy, noisy streets means that you feel like you are at a rest stop on I-90. ...

Loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/19/08
My hubby took me there for our anniversary and it was wonderful! The hotel was absolutely gorgeous...definitely different than any other one i've been to. I loved the cookies and coffee in the lobby. The only complaint I had was the volume at times. When the air comes on and off its not exactly quiet..also the bars and the big easy getting out led to a bunch of loud drunk people yelling at any car that passed.

Outstanding!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/07
The historical value of the hotel and its lovely refurbishment created a great foundation for a very relaxing and comfortable time. The owner truly cares about his property and it shows from the wonderful coffee and cookies provided in the lobby (also unique, warm, and spacious) to the attentive staff. The rooms are cozy, the beds ample, and the ...

This is my third time at the Montvale - it's been better every time. Thanks for the stay. Oh, breakfast in the Catacombs is wonderful!

If you're looking for a full-service hotel with restauant, hot tub and pool, then you might want to pass on the Montvale. On the other hand, if you crave noir-ish elegance, warm surroundings, a courteous staff and the ideal place for a romantic getaway, then THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! The vintage 1899 building oozes atmosphere, the warmth and ...
I stayed at this hotel last Friday for my Mother/Daughter Trip with my mom, her friend, and my friend, the place is in a bad location, but its really pretty inside and they did a great job re-decorating it, the beds were absolutely amazing, but the room that we got, was next to an alley, over the big easy-with loud people, a parking lot-with loud ...

NEVER AGAIN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/06
For starters check in was a nightmare, they didn't have our reservation and on top of that were rude about it. Room must've been cleaned by an idiot because it hadn't been vacuumed and the bathroom was dirty at best. Room was really noisy due to street noise & lack of insulation in the walls. For $100 plus stay at the Davenport not this dump!

Best beds in town!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
The front lobby was a bit non-descript, but the atrium area above it was beautiful. The whole place has an old world, comfy charm that is hard to find in today's pre-packaged hotel world. The staff was friendly and the beds were amazing. My only suggestion would be a little more light in the rooms. The ambience is perfect for lovers but a little hard to read by. Overall though, the place was great and I'll certainly be back
