From Arch Rock Entrance, Follow Highway 140 into the Yosemite Valley. Bear right on to Southside Drive and turn right on to Wawona Road. Follow Wawona Road southward 32 miles to the Mariposa Grove turn off. Turn left and follow the access road to the parking area.
Location Information
Mariposa Grove is the largest, and most developed, of three sequoia groves in Yosemite National Park. It lies at the southern end of the park, along Wawona Road, and contains 250 Big Trees. Facilities at this site include: a large parking area, restrooms, a museum and tram system.Two trails, in addition to the tram system, are available to help visitors navigate the grove. Both trails begin from the parking area. The shorter trail is two miles round trip. An interpretive brochure for this route is available at the trailhead describing the natural and cultural history of the grove. The longer trail is six and a half miles round trip and leads through the upper portion of the grove. This is the best route to attempt to escape the crowds, because a bit more effort is needed to complete it. This route, the Outer Loop Trail, passes the Fallen Monarch, Bachelor and Three Graces and the Grizzly Giant trees. An interpretive brochure is also available for this trail at the parking area. This trail brings visitors to the Mariposa Grove Museum. The museum contains exhibits on the sequoia plant community in addition to the areas natural and cultural history.
