Location Information
Rock Lake Trail, a National Recreational Trail, is great for hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. The trail winds through rolling terrain forested with oak, paper birch, aspen, and maple. There are stands of white pine scattered throughout the area as well as around Rock and Spring Lakes. You can start at the parking lot off Highway M or for shorter hikes to lakes on the trail you can begin where the trail loops cross FR 207.

The Rock Lake Trail is especially pretty in the fall color season. The hikes on the 11.5 Km and 16 Km loops to the small lakes on the trail are particularly scenic.

Rock Lake Trail is part of the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association trail system. For more detailed description of the mountain biking opportunities in the Rock Lake area refer to the CAMBA Namakagon Cluster Mountain Bike Map which is available at the trailhead or from CMBA, PO Box 141, Cable WI 54821. The mountain bike loops are marked with bright blue and white rectangular reassurance markers. If you decide to explore off of the marked trail system, you should carry a map and compass.

The Rock Lake area is a good place to fish secluded lakes. All of the lakes in the area have pan fish. In addition Rock Lake and Frels Lake have largemouth bass and Hildebrand Lake has northern pike and largemouth bass.

Horseback riding on the trail is prohibited. The trail is closed to motorized vehicles. In addition the area west of FR 207 is non-motorized area.
