Location Information
Although Whetstone Horse Camp, located on the Andrew Pickens District, serves as a base camp for riders on the Rocky Gap/Willis Knob Horse Trail, it also is available for anyone wanting a place to camp. A brochure detailing the trail, river fords, and rules and regulations is available at the Andrew Pickens District Office.

This camping area offers 20 sites. 5 are first come, first served basis, while up to 15 may be reserved. The area has centrally located drinking water, wheelchair accessible toilets, cooking grills, hitching rails, tables and lantern posts.

Across the river on the Georgia side is another camp that is part of this trail
system. Campers must obtain reservations. Call the Tallulah District office at 706-782-3320 for more information.

Earls Ford road is very close to Whetstone Horse Camp and provides a parking area and hiking access trail to the Chattooga River. Earls Ford and
Sandy Ford, also nearby, provide primitive (and not very quiet) campsites.
