The Silver Lake State Park area is a recreation haven. The park itself contains over 1,500 acres of "Sahara Desert-like" sand dunes of which 450 acres are set aside for ORV use. Sprawling acreage fringes Lake Michigan, Silver Lake and Upper Silver Lake. A popular area attraction is the Mac Woods Dune Ride, an eight-mile narrated, and very scenic sand excursion.Scenic recreation reigns at Silver Lake State Park, which offers vistas of Upper Silver Lake, Silver Lake and Lake Michigan. Hundreds of acres are available for ORV use, one the park's main attractions. Swimming beaches, fishing, hiking, hunting, boating and winter sport opportunities are available as well. The Little Point Sable Lighthouse is a favorite for photographers. Overnight guests are welcome at the 250-site campground from April 1 to December 1. Modern bathhouses are open April 15 through November 1.
Outdoor fun At Silver Lake State Park evolves around camping, swimming, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, ORV use, and in winter, snowmobiling.
West Coast Michigan experiences pleasant summers with temperatures averaging 70 degrees F (21 degrees C). In winter, temperatures plunge to 22 degrees F (-6 degrees C). Lake winds have dramatic affect on wind chill factors. Yearly precipitation averages 40 inches and above.
