Those loving the North Woods come to Muskallonge Lake State Park, which is located on the shores of Lake Superior. Hemlock and pine dominate the forest. Lake and forest scenery abound. Walleye, perch, northern pike and muskie are the featured fishing species.Muskallonge Lake State Park offers the visitor 179 campsites featuring water, restrooms, and pumphouse. Sites are broken into three campgrounds each offering sun drenched and shade sites. Campsites are available April 15 to November 15, with no modern toilets the first and last month.
Lake Superior and Muskallonge Lake are the main attractions of this park that lures anglers and boaters. A boat launch is offered to those who bring their own boat. Swimming is enjoyed during the warmer months of the year. The rock shoreline attracts rock hunters in search of agates.
This Lake Superior park affords visitors the ability to enjoy lake swimming, fishing, camping, and boating.
The Upper Peninsula normally experiences mild summers with average temperatures near 70 degrees F (21 degrees C). Winter temperatures average 14 degrees F (-10 degrees C). Rain and snowmelt in the region can reach up to 200 inches annually. Travelers should be aware that significant amounts of snow could fall within a relatively short period of time resulting in hazardous road conditions.
