With more than 600 hiking trails, famed whitewater rapids, choice fishing, and scenery certain to leave you speechless, Siskiyou National Forest should be on the short list for future travel by any self-avowed outdoor fanatic. Rock hounds - - the kind who collect, not climb - - will be intrigued by the forest's extraordinarily diverse rock formations, which include the various igneous rock of the Cascade Range and the sedimentary formations of the Coastal Range. The climate in Siskiyou National Forest is just as diverse, ranging from arctic-like atop the highest peaks to semi-tropical in the lowest reaches. It's an axiom of the natural world that a variety of climate zones and topography will result in a wide diversity of plant and animal life, which is certianly the case in Siskiyou. The forest is home an exceptional collection of species, including some odd forms of cacti.
