Location Information
Spectacle Lake Overlook offers a panoramic view that you will not soon forget. On a clear day the sight of Lake Superior, the greatest single body of fresh water in the world, cannot help but excite you. Off in the distance, Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, along with the green of the Canadian pines can be seen clearly. On the American side, you can see the hardwoods' new leaves in spring, deep green shade in summer, ablaze with the yellows, oranges, reds, threaded with the green of spruce and pine in fall, and the clean and gleaming snow and ice in winter. The world famous locks and Sault Ste. Marie, are visible off to the right where the St. Mary's River begins to connect the Great Lakes of Superior and Huron. To the left, the Iroquois Point Lighthouse tower shines bright white against the green pines. The site was dedicated in October 1985 as a memorial to Herman E. and Frances L. Cameron of Bay Mills, a couple who found inspiration and spiritual strength at this location while devoting their lives to their fellow man and the advancement of the Indian nation.
