From Fontana Lake, NC, Take SR 28 west to the Twentymile Ranger Station. Begin on the Twentymile Creek Trail and bear right at the fork traveling to Lost Cove Trail at the intersection with the Appalachian Trail. OR begin from the Fontana Lake Dam area and hike the Appalachian Trail a short distance to Lost Cove Trail.
Location Information
Lost Cove is a connector trail between the Appalachian Trail by Sassafras Gap, north of Fontana Lake Dam area and the Western Shoreline Trail. It also connects with Eagle Creek Trail. The trail is strenuous, climbing almost 2,000 feet in less than 4 miles. There is primitive camping available and also stream fishing.
