From Waynesville, NC, Travel north on US 276. Take US 276 / US 19 west for about 2.5 miles bearing right onto US 276. (US 19 continues straight.) Travel about 3 miles turning left onto Hemphill Road. There are several trailheads off the road.
Location Information
The Cataloochee Divide Trail is a moderate trail gaining elevation of approximately 1,500 feet over a 6.5 mile trek. The trail experiences a few major climbs from Double Gap and just below Hemphill Bald to Cove Creek Gap. This trail can be accessed off Hemphill Road which offers access to several other trails as well. It is a good day hike, however, it provides no water source.
