From Blue Ridge Parkway, NC, 10 miles north of Soco Gap on Balsam Mountain Road (closed in winter), off the Blue Ridge Parkway around Milepost 458. Trail begins from the camping area.
Location Information
The Balsam Mountain Trail is a pleasant walk through a forest of hardwoods to its terminus at the Appalachian Trail. This is a historical area abound with old shanties and fields that were once filled with livestock and lumbermen. The Laurel Gap Shelter is available for overnight use with reservations. The trail offers a number of areas for viewing the spectacular Smokeys.
