Location Information
The Lakeshore Trail is 25 miles long. It travels across the lowlands on the north side of Fontana Lake. The trail does not weave in and out of coves, instead it cuts across the forest. There are numerous primitive camping opportunities along the route with fishing opportunities as well. The trail is on an old road and is difficult to follow at times because of many small side roads leading off the main path. There is one difficult climb over Welch Ridge but the rest of the ridges are fairly moderate. This area seems to be a haven for black bear.
