Location Information
The Luzerne Trail Camp serves Segment C of the Shore-to-Shore Trail. It is used primarily by equestrians thus it is maintained predominately by the Michigan Trail Riders Association. The trail is over 40 miles traveling between the junction of M-33 and CR 489, and ending approximately 10 miles north of Grayling. The trailhead is located about midway. The terrain is mostly flat with some steep and some moderately difficult stretches. Hikers and mountain bikers are welcome to use the trail. Family and group camping is available at the trailhead. Hand pump water, hitching posts, picnic tables and vault toilets are found on site. There are 10 natural parking spurs for individual campers and 65 parking spurs for group campers. Sites are free to individuals. Groups fees are collected. Call 989-826-3252 for reservations. Backcountry camping is permitted all along the route; 150 feet from trail or road and 200 feet from any water source. No permits are required and the Forest Service does ask you observe the "carry-in, carry-out" trend. Users will experience beautiful stands of oak and maple inhabited by an assortment of northern Michigan wildlife. NOTE: At the nearby Luzerne Trail Bridge, there is one-way traffic on the bridge on the day the camp-to-camp riders are using it.

A map of the Shore-to-Shore Trail (240 miles) is available by contacting the Michigan Trail Riders Association, 1650 Ormond Road, White Lake, MI 48383 or visiting www.mtra.org.
