From From Salida, From Salida take Highway 285 north to Nathrop. Turn west at Nathrop and drive about 15 miles on County Road 162. Immediately before St. Elmo, turn left on to County Road 295. Travel 3 miles to County Road 297. Turn left on County Road 297, which will bring you to the trailhead. A 4WD vehicle is needed to drive this road.
Location Information
Pomeroy Lakes Trail is a short trail to a pair of alpine lakes. The trailhead is located south of St. Elmo, and a 4 WD vehicle is necessary to reach it. The trailhead lies at an elevation of 12,080'. Pomeroy Lake lies .25 miles south of the trailhead at 12,035'. Upper Pomeroy Lake lies 1 mile south of the trailhead at an elevation of 12,250'.The lakes have very good fishing for cutthroat and Rainbow crossed with cutthroat. It is stocked every 1 to 2 years and the average sized fish is 10 - 12 inches. The ice does not completely melt on Upper Pomeroy Lake until late June or early July.
