Directions
From Lander, Travel 15 miles northwest on US Highway 26-287, then turn west at an unsigned road junction across from historical marker and adjacent to Hines General Store. Follow this road southwest for 19 miles across the Wind River Indian Reservation. Continue south (left) at the Moccasin Lake/Dickinson Park junction for 1.7 miles to the signed Bears Ear Trailhead parking area. The parking area is 1/2 mile west of trail.
Location Information
TRAILHEAD LOCATION: One half mile east of Bears Ear parking area.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Beginning climbing gradually up several switch backs and at three miles the double-pronged stone outcroppings known as Bears Ears comes into view. After five miles drop down from Adams Pass, cross a corduroy over marsh, proceed over a permanent snow field and cross Sand Creek. At 6.5 miles the spectacular Wind River Peaks which form the Continental divide west are evident. In the glacial cirques numerous alpine lakes are observed. Continue south over the rocky trail and come to the Lizard Head Trail junction at 9 miles. Fork right and drop down to Valentine Creek and Valentine Meadows. At 11.5 miles stay left at the Moss Lake Trail(Dutch Oven) junction and drop to the north side of Valentine Lake at 12 miles. Continue across Upper Valentine Creek and drop right towards the South Fork Little Wind River. Turn south to Washaki Lake and north to Grave Lake. A wilderness guard has a camp near the junction and is available to answer questions and assist hikers.
