Location Information
Located within the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness the Murray Canyon is a large side drainage of the East Fork of the Carson River. It serves as the most accessible pass between the Carson River and Wolf Creek. The most common access points for the Murray Canyon trail are the Wolf Creek trailhead and the High Trail/East Carson River trailhead.

On the East Carson River trail in Falls Meadow (12 miles from trailhead) the Murray Canyon trail climbs immediately from its usually signed junction. After climbing a series of switch backs, you are granted a birds-eye view of Falls Meadow and rugged Whites Canyon. This great view is left behind as you travel deeper into the hanging valley that is Murray Canyon. The main trail eventually climbs steeply up a side drainage, leaving the main trunk of Murray Creek behind. After nearly 3 miles and 2200 vertical feet of climbing, the trail summits at the pass. At this point a signed trail, the Murray Canyon / PCT Connector trail, departs to the south. It connects with the Pacific Crest Trail after about a mile and a half. Our trail, however stays right at the pass and begins to descend the rocky, open slopes high above Wolf Creek. Expansive views are offered during your mile and a half decent to Wolf Creek. The junction of the Murray Canyon trail and Wolf creek is 6 miles from the Wolf Creek trailhead. The Carson River, Murray, Wolf loop is 23 miles.

Please Remember:

* Always carry drinking water.
* Hike in single file to keep trails narrow and wild.
* Prevent erosion, follow the trail and do NOT cut switchbacks.
* Keep trails clean, pack out ALL paper and trash.
* Protect plants and wildlife.
