Location Information
Located approximately nine miles east of Homestead, Florida, the Dante Fascell Visitor Center is a great way to orient yourself to the many sights, sounds and recreations available at the 181,500-acre Biscayne National Park. The center is open year-round with the exception of Christmas Day. Hours are 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Throughout the year, visitors can expect to find wonderful, colorful displays of the park's four ecosystems that consist of mangrove forest, bay, keys and fragile coral reef. The park staff has used dioramas, audio and video to compliments the exhibits. The introductory film is a good overview; children find it especially fascinating. The bookstore offers gifts and a variety of wonderful resource materials for young and old alike. Ranger-guided tours are held throughout the year with special programs being conducted upon request. Contact the park office in advance for special programs. A park concessioner offers several opportunities for those without a boat of their own, including glass bottom boat tours, snorkeling trips, dive trips, island excursions, and canoe & kayak rentals. A picnic grove and short nature trail accompany the visitor center. A special notation is that this visitor center also has first aid available.
