Location Information
Fore Lake Recreation Area, a pleasant day use and camping area in the Ocala National Forest, is open year-round. With stately oaks and tall pines, the area has retained its natural beauty and offers visitors a peaceful and scenic recreation experience.A 250-foot sandy beach adjacent to the warm, relaxing waters of 77-acre Fore Lake provides swimming and sunbathing opportunities. Fishing and boating in small, non-gasoline powered craft are allowed. The lake is relatively deep with little cover other than shoreline vegetation. A fishing pier is at the southeast corner of the lake. There is also a cartop boat launch. Anglers will find success in the shoreline vegetation. Largemouth bass and a variety of pan fish are the primary catch. Fore Lake picnic area is large and can accommodate numerous visitors. Cooking grills are available at all picnic tables. A shelter housing three picnic tables is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lush vegetation surrounds the area's 25 non-electric campsites. Each campsite has its own parking spur, cooking grill, picnic table and lantern post. Potable water outlets, though not placed at each individual campsite, are within easy access. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and motor homes up to 35 feet. The maximum stay is 14 days within a 30-day period. Pets are allowed only at the campsites, but must be controlled by a leash no longer than six feet. Black bear and white-tailed deer quietly roam the area. Birdlife is abundant including a variety of wading birds and raptors. Songbirds live in the area year-round and also migrate through the Forest. Each visitor center offers a wonderful bird checklist describing the abundance, occurrence and breeding patterns of the Forest's birds. In addition, the booklet outlines 16 habitats and lists the types of birds most often associated with those habitats. This wonderful, handy reference is free of charge. The Mill Dam day use area and gate is open from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. daily. Please note that the use of motorized vehicles is permitted only on established roads and parking areas.
