Location Information
The Chimney Peak Trail is located 23.3 miles east of Sweet Home at an elevation of 2,300 feet. This trail is a difficult 12.7 mile trail that descends rapidly for 0.75 miles to the Middle Santiam River. You can enjoy exploring Shedd Camp shelter and a nearby plunge pool. The trail continues across the Middle Santiam River and travels north through majestic old-growth forest. The trail crosses Pyramid Creek and crosses Forest Road 2041 before entering the Middle Santiam Wilderness and reaching Donaca Lake. Beyond Donaca Lake, through the heart of the wilderness, the trail gradually gains elevation to the base of Chimney Peak. Adventurous explorers might want to ascend the rocky peak to the place where a fire lookout once stood.
