From Sweet Home, Travel east on Hwy. #20 about 4 miles and turn left on Forest Road 11 (Quartzville Road.) Follow for 32 miles to Forest Road 1142 and turn right. Follow 1142 for 4 miles to the trailhead. Access road to the trailhead is rough, horse trailers are not recommended.
Location Information
McQuade Creek Trail is a moderate to difficult 5.2 mile trail. This trail begins in dense, young forest and crosses two stream channels. After traversing a harvest unit, you enter a mature and old-growth forest for a wonderful mid-slope hike. McQuade Creek Shelter (a primitive three-sided structure) was once a welcome sight to hikers shortly before the trail connects with Chimney Peak Trail at the wilderness boundary. Wood rot and storm damage collapsed the shelter in 1996.
