From Roseburg, Western Trailhead) Travel east on Highway to Forest Service Road 4770. Turn right and follow 4770 south to the Marsters Trailhead on the east side of Marsters Bridge. The trailhead is approximately 600 feet downstream with no restrooms or water. Horse trailers need to park at the wide area along 4770, 300 feet from the highway. Eastern Trailhead) Travel east on Hwy. 138 and turn onto Forest Service Road 4775; then immediately turning left onto Forest Service Road 4775-011. The Soda Springs Trailhead is at milepost 1.3, between Soda Springs Dam and Soda Springs Power House. A parking area is available for up to three horse trailers and up to three standard vehicles. The actual trail is accessed from parking area by following Road 4775-011 1.2 miles west, past the power house. Parking and trailhead location are separated by a primitive road.
Location Information
The Jesse Wright Segment of the North Umpqua Trail closely parallels the river for it's entire length. Skirting the river to the north, the trail passes south of the Boulder Creek Wilderness across the river from Eagle Rock and Boulder Flat Campgrounds. Old growth forests and picturesque views of the river highlight this segment of the trail, which also connects to the Illahee Flat Trail #1532 and the Boulder Creek Trail #1552. The eastern 1.2 miles of this trail follows existing Forest Service Road 4775-011. Although traffic is very light, trail users need to be aware that the road is presently open to traffic.
