Location Information
The Rocky Rim Trail features a bird's eye view of Fish Lake and traverses a ridge separating the Fish Lake Basin and the remote Castle Creek Drainage. From the trailhead, the trail travels 2.5 miles to the base of the Palisades, an outcropping of volcanic rocks and spires. The trail climbs around these formations to the top of the cliffs, with Fish Lake visible far below.Past the junction with the Rocky Ridge Trail #1571, the trail continues south along Rocky Ridge, surrounded with views of Fish Lake and Castle Creek; as well as distant views of the high Cascade Mountains. In places, the trail clings to the narrow backbone of Rocky Ridge, before finally entering the timber and subalpine meadows at the junction with the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail #1470.
