From Tiller, Travel northeast on County Road #46 to Jackson Creek Road #29. Follow Road #29 east to Road #2947. Follow Road #2947 east to Road #2947-300 at the Falcon Creek bridge. Follow Road #2947-300 southeast to the Sandstone Trailhead, approximately 25 miles from Tiller.Parking at the trailhead itself is limited to one to two vehicles on a road turnout. No turnaround available at trailhead for even single vehicle. Single vehicle turnaround available on Road 2947-356, approximately one-half mile beyond the trailhead. For vehicles pulling trailers the 2947-360 road approximately one and one-half miles past the trailhead offers more space for turning around. A flat area with water available for stock is located one-fourth to one-half mile before the trailhead. Horse users may wish to park here after turning around.
Location Information
The Sandstone Trail leads the traveler up the west side of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide ridge, climbing from 3,500 feet to 5,500 feet at Anderson Mountain. A variety of trail experiences are offered, including a stand of old growth Douglas fir, an old forest burn, scenic views of Jackson Creek Drainage, and unusual rock formations such as volcanic cinder cones. At the top of the divide, the Sandstone Trail meets the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail #1470, on Anderson Mountain.
