Location Information
This trail is but one section of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail which traverses from Canada to Mexico. Many places along the trail offer commanding views of the surrounding peaks, lakes and valleys. Much of the trail is at or above timberline and therefore usually snow covered from early November into July.

Water is available near the trail at Thielsen Creek, Maidu Lake and Tolo Camp and a pit toilet is available at Windigo Pass. There is parking at Windigo Pass and North Crater Trailheads. The trail is great for a day hike of extended pack trip, though not marked for Nordic skiing. The southern end receives light use in the winter. The trail is closed to motorized and mountain bike use as it is within the Mt. Thielsen Wilderness or provides access to the wilderness.
